1606/07- after 1661 The Hague
Anthony Jansz van der Croos was born between 13 July 1606 and 1 March 1607
but his place of birth is unknown. He lived at The Hague from 1634 where be
married for the second time in 1646. He entered the Guild of St. Luke at The
Hague in 1647. Between November 1649 and November 1651 be lived at Alkmaar and
became a member of the Guild of St. Luke there in 1649. Thereafter be returned
to The Hague where be is documented at various dates until 1661. His date of
death is not known. He was one of the numerous followers of Jan van Goyen and
painted for the most part landscapes with views of towns executed in the vicinity
of The Hague, Alkmaar, Haarlem and Amsterdam.
Van der Croos owned a spiegeljacht (pleasure boat) in which he traveled the
Dutch canals, noting points of interest which he later used in his landscapes.
